Sons of the American legion

Preamble to the SAL National Constitution

Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the Great Wars, associate ourselves together as "Sons of The American Legion" for the following purposes:

To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.

The Sons of the American Legion was established as a non-political, non-sectarian civilian organization at the 14th National Convention of the American Legion in Portland, Oregon, September 12-15 1932.

The Sons of the American Legion is a program of the American Legion with over 5,633 SAL Squadrons located throughout the United States, France and the Philippines with a total membership of over 319,000 plus members.

The major goal of the Sons of the American Legion is support to our nation's veterans and their families as well as support to the American Legion.

The Sons of the American Legion annually contributes over $3.1 million in cash and goods to our nation's veterans in VA facilities with over 177,000 volunteer hours each year.

The Sons of the American Legion Program is a key component to the Legion family in support of the American Legion and all veterans.

SAL Commanders Message:

I would like to thank you for your support last year.  It was a learning experience for me and will continue to be.  With all your support and help, this year will be an even better one for all of us.

I will continue to be there for anyone that needs answers to a question, or help with issues that come up or just a friendly visit to the squadron.  One of my Vice Commanders or myself can even attend one of your Squadron meetings.  Just let us know when they are and give me a call 201-925-4373 (cell) 201-384-0044 (home).

If you are having a function and would like our support just call or e-mail me @ loovesong@aol.com with an invitation and I will try to be there along with my staff.  Let’s keep this a true Legion Family.

I would also like to say it is the beginning of a new year, so let’s try to get the membership to Trenton as soon as you get them.  We would like to have 100% from every squadron.

So let’s have a good year…..

For God & Country

Len Free

Bergen County S.A.L. Commander
